I am helping a group called Orange Cat Racing, which focuses on youth development, physical activity, and violence prevention for Sacramento youth - all focused around bicycles.
Dean Alleger is the tireless champion of this project - doing all his work as a volunteer. He has developed a "scraper factory" where he salvages bicycles for youth, teaching them hands-on mechanical skills. He has a series of bicycle safety and riding activities for youth, including community events and bike rodeos. He also hosts a series of races for kids - to keep them physically active and enjoy the benefits and satisfaction that sporting competition can bring. His work has truly been amazing in the community, and it is unbelievable what he has done. Dean would greatly like to scale up his projects and make Orange Cat a full-time venture, so he can reach more youth and expand his great work."
*Names and organizations have been omitted due to the treacherous nature of those who wish to see me fail. As part of my new "squinty-eyed trust no one until the check clears" approach to business dealings I can only say that the future is bright for urban youth bicycling!
I'm still strapped for cash and it will be a few months before funding starts so any and all financial support is gratefully appreciated. You can donate through the PayPal on my home page or if you need the transparency and tax benefit of a 501c3 shoot me an email and I'll point you to my fiscal sponsor.
